Apprentice Required!
Shaun Winter Marionettes is currently seeking an additional member of the team to join us in working the shows. Both puppeteers and enthusiasts are welcome to apply as full training will be given, as required, in manipulation and the repertoire of shows.
We are based in the Southampton area and we tour the shows mainly in Southern England, though on occasions we have been known to travel as far as Manchester.
Performing the shows is great fun for the puppeteers, partly from the creativity involved and additionally from the pleasure it affords the audiences. However, there are also other skills that can be demonstrated in puppeteering, such as acting, crafting of puppets, props and scenery, lighting, sound recording, taking bookings via phone and e-mail, and Web site updating. These tasks are shared among company members depending on individuals’ abilities.
The work is quite physical in that it necessitates putting up a small stage for production of the shows. Operation of the marionettes requires good co-ordination and imagination. Types of venues includes schools, parties, fetes, OAP and disabled groups, shopping malls and National Trust properties.
This should not be regarded as a regular-income situation, but more as a hobby with remuneration for shows performed. All members of the company have an alternative income. Some, probably most, of the work is at the weekends, however some dates do fall during the week.
